“Above all, I’m a storyteller.”

– Henque Heymans

Two-time ATKV Woordveertjie award-winning writer Henque Heymans learnt his art in television under the tutelage of Franz Marx and Christo Compion, whereafter he entered film and later theatre. In 2016 Henque co-found “DEURnis”, South Africa’s first site specific one-on-one theatre production that received the Blou Fiësta award in 2017 for ground-breaking work.

After writing almost a dozen plays under the DEURnis umbrella and various award-winning productions, including “Birthing Nureyev” which headlined the 2019 National Arts Festival and “Oom Bey, my pa” (as part of the NATi Jong Sterre program) which won him his second ATKV Woordveertjie in 2022, Henque started teaching Story Structure at Boston City Campus in 2022 as part of their film studies course. With a novel on the way Henque wishes to excel in all forms of the written word in order for him to tell his stories in the medium that conveys it best to audiences.
